Financial Aid & Scholarship

We are committed to granting equal opportunities to students who qualify to attend Palm. All qualified deserving brilliant but financially needy students at Palm are supported through the Palm University Foundation and the David Okai Okantey (DOO) Foundation. The Palm University Foundation and DOO Foundations award significant need-based financial support to qualified Palm students every academic year based on available scholarship funds.

The foundations award partial or full scholarships for tuition and other related fees. Scholarships are only awarded to students who have been through the Palm Admissions process and have been selected to enroll at Palm. To receive a scholarship from Palm, students are required to complete a Scholarship Application Form. The student must successfully pass a Scholarship Application Interview with the Palm University Foundation or DOO Foundation Scholarship Committee to be awarded a scholarship – partial or full.  The student will be required to show proof of inability to afford the required financial obligations to attend Palm.

The Palm University Foundation or DOO Foundations’ Scholarship Selection Process begins by determining whether a student qualifies to be admitted into Palm, based on the applicant’s overall profile. The initial selection process does not take into consideration the needs of the student.

Applicants who qualify to enter Palm, and have applied for scholarships, are then evaluated on the basis of their financial need; at this stage, a thorough assessment is conducted of all applicant information gathered by the Palm University Foundation/DOO Foundations Scholarship Committee, which is made up of the entire Admissions Team and local and U.S-based representatives of Palm University Foundation or DOO Foundation. Where information provided is unclear, students may be asked additional questions on their financial need during their Admissions Interview.

Based on the demonstrated financial need, applicants are placed into one of four categories: Extreme Need, High Need, Medium Need or Low Need. For each category of aid, there is a set amount of funding Palm can award through the Palm University Foundation or DOO Foundations. Students in each category are then ranked based on the strength of their admissions and scholarship application; funding is awarded to students in each category based on this ranking, until the allocated funds run out for the admissions period.

Students within each category, who do not immediately receive funds, are placed on a wait-list, and informed of their status. Available scholarship funds are passed on to students on a waiting list should an admitted student decline an admission or scholarship offer. Students who receive scholarships at Palm typically demonstrate that they would be:

  • Able to successfully complete academic work at Palm by maintaining a GPA of 3.0
  • Otherwise, unable to afford to attend Palm.
  • Active contributors to campus life and development.
  • Work for a Department or Unit during the academic year and on vacations
  • Committed to giving back to their communities, and show strong leadership potential.

Scholarship cover varies based on demonstrated need by the applicant. The Palm University/DOO Foundations’ scholarships can cover a part of tuition fees, or the entire cost of studying at Palm depending on the availability of funds. Applicants who are awarded scholarships will be informed of their scholarship in their admissions package.

Qualified students will be offered admissions independent of the Palm University/DOO Foundation scholarship award decisions. Admitted students may sometimes be informed that they have been admitted but do not qualify for scholarship awards.

Additionally, applicants are encouraged to be honest and transparent in their applications to Palm and their request for scholarships. Applicants, who present false information during the application (admission or scholarship) process, may be automatically disqualified from applying to Palm; and where admitted, an admissions offer may be withdrawn.

At the moment, Palm does not provide loans or grants. The Financial Aid Office encourages students to seek all possible means of financial assistance from government agencies, foundations, non-profit organizations and civic organizations they are connected to. Some banks also offer educational loans to prospective students. Palm however, works diligently through the Palm University Foundation & DOO Foundation to seek gifts from donors, partners and friends who believe in the vision and mission of this institution. When such funds become available, they would be made available for assisting students as scholarships.

All scholarships are awarded through the Palm University Foundation & DOO Foundation.

The Palm University Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization based in Accra, Ghana, West Africa and Portland, Oregon, USA.
